There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick!

Are you looking for engaging classroom activities with minimal prep to use for the weeks before Easter? If so, we’ve got you covered! We all know how much kids love the Old Lady book series. There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick! is a must have read aloud story for the Easter season.

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick Story Summary:

It’s a wacky Easter story of an old lady with poor eating habits; a favorite tale in this series by author Lucille Colandro. This time, the hungry old lady swallows a chick, some straw, an egg, some candy, a basket, and a bow! And just as she’s hopping and skipping along, who should she meet but the Easter Bunny! With rhyming text and funny illustrations, your young readers will LOVE this book–a fun story for spring in the classroom!

And what’s better than an easy to prep story sequencing book companion activity to use after reading the story!

Simply print these pocket chart sequencing cards and ordering events worksheet and you have a ready to go, low prep center and follow up activity for your read aloud.

The best part is that the cards are created in both color and black and white. You can print the low ink version on colored cardstock!

How to use this book companion resource:

Read the story and discuss the order of events.

Scramble up the pocket chart cards and have the students put them in the correct order. This can be done whole class or in small groups at a reading center.

After working together with support, students are ready to work independently. Print the color, cut and paste sequencing worksheet and use this as a formative assessment tool or a creative paper to take home to show parents what the children have been working on in school before Easter!

**If this sounds like a fun activity to use with your students at Eastertime, you can find it at Creative Lesson Cafe at TPT.

You can grab a copy of the book for your own classroom library too. It’s available at Amazon! (affiliate link)
