Snowman-Themed Compound Words Center

This big snowstorm has motivated me to do some creating in winter themes! This is a new snowman compound words center that I know my students will love during Daily 5 (which is more like Daily 3 lately) for the month of January! There are four weeks of card matches here and a recording sheet too. I anticipate that it will be a 20 minute long station rotation which will be perfect with our full schedule.

I am going to have them work in small groups cooperatively on this one. It may prove to be challenging for a few of them. I can see matches like rainglasses and suncoat making sense to some of my kiddos!

What I like about this design it is that it won’t use up a lot of ink to print. And don’t you just love Nikki’s snowman graphics! You could print the set and then photocopy it on blue or any colored cardstock. That would be cute too!

Frosty and his friend can help students practice reading and writing compound words with this snowman-themed center. It will fit right in with your winter lessons and learning activities!

There are 40 pair of cards to match and a recording sheet for student accountability.

Set out ten word pairs and the recording sheet each week and you have a word work or literacy center to last for an entire month!

Students can work independently at a station or take turns, working as a small group. This may also be used as a game of concentration with the cards arranged faced-down.

These cards should be printed on cardstock and be laminated to last year after year. For best results print in color, but they will look great in grayscale as well! The recording sheet is black and white for easy printing and copying.

Although hard to see in the thumbnail, the word cards have a rectangular border so they are easy to cut and prep.

I think your class will love this center especially if you have a snowman teaching theme during the winter months! Click on the picture to see it at Creative Lesson Cafe at TPT!

Hi Jeannine! Both look absolutely amazing. I am addicted to creative fonts. I also teach first grade so the compound words activity would fit perfectly. Thanks for sharing. Michelle
